D'ara Nazaryan was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Her creative talents range from motion graphics design to illustration. She began experimenting with photography and marbling, and launched her line of marbles goods called Papelaria in March 2016. Prior to that she founded The Shorthand, a creative outlet including fashion inspiration, lifestyle coverage, and travel. Recently she traveled to Cuba, Mexico, and attended a Saint Heron party in Los Angeles.

Do you collect?

Cacti, I went a little crazy last year and now the front patio looks like a nursery.

 

Tea or coffee?

I rarely say no to coffee, but a life without Sadaf’s cardamon and earl grey tea is unspeakable. 

 

What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?

That parents are impervious to the actions and many moods of their children.

What are your plans for this weekend?

Working on Papelaria, editing photos, and a brunch in Malibu.

 

A song?

Hercules – Young Thug has been a repeat offender recently.

What is the best dish you can cook?

My mac and cheese is pretty amazing. I only make it at Thanksgiving.

 

What is your middle name?

Lauren. There’s some parental dispute about pronunciation.

 

What do you do in your free time?

When I don’t bully myself into working out and all the errands are done, I’m shooting with friends and definitely having a lot of late night heart to hearts about our aspirations. And vacation planning, always got travel on the mind. 

 

What inspires you?

Travel, nothing hits the reset button on the creative mind like being in a new environment with new experiences.

 
 

Your idea of happiness?

Creating. I’ve recently fallen back in love with image capturing and am specifically passionate about creating imagery that explores the thematics of form, aesthetic, and representation. 

 

Your idea of misery?

Feeling stagnant, like I have no room to grow or evolve.

 

If not yourself, who would you be?

Definitely got a girl crush on Hannah Bronfman.

 

Your heroes?

My ladies on their grind! Especially the many just flourishing from my own alma mater.

 

What is your present state of mind?

Accepting of the next cycle change I feel happening within myself.

What do you do if you can’t sleep at night?

Toss/Turn. Bother boyfriend. Gram. Repeat. 

 
 

What do you do for money?

Design and illustrate for motion graphics. 

 

What do you do for pleasure?

Pull image reference, online window-shop, happy hour hop.
