Emily Miles
Collage Artist, Melbourne
Emily Miles is a collage artist living in Melbourne, Australia. She grew up in the country surrounded by nature, an influence that can be seen heavily in her work that is majority bits and pieces cut from vintage National Geographic. Aside from collage art, she’s had writing and photography work published. She currently is studying psychology at a university in Melbourne. She also finds much inspiration in traveling. Earlier in 2017, she took a two-month road trip with her partner throughout the US.
Where did you find your interest in collage art?
More than anything, I think it developed out of a love of photography and wanting to collect beautiful images.
What drew you to vintage National Geographic?
In my opinion, there's simply no other magazine who's images are as beautiful, as real and as interesting. Particularly the older issues.
Aside from your collages sourced from National Geographic, we see beach days, outdoor festivals, and tons of nature in your photos? How would you say nature has impacted you?
The very first photo of the set is from the house I grew up, so I've always been surrounded by nature. There's just something about being outside in the sunshine that makes it almost impossible to have a bad day.
What was the festival you were attending?
The festival is 'NYE On The Hill'. It's a tiny, perfectly curated festival that takes place on a farm not far from where I grew up.
Regarding the photos, were there moments that you are re-living now that had a really interesting story you would care to share?
They're all just small, simple, perfectly imperfect moments with friends and family.
How did you hear about Disposable Magazine?
I stumbled across Disposable on Instagram one day and instantly fell in-love with the concept of the magazine.

Catching up on sleep, date night, and watching Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion.

What do you do in your free time?
Study, create, run errands and watch re-runs

Working on anyone’s schedule, but my own

What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?
When I was young I had a very realistic dream that after coming home from school one day I got out of the car and glided to the front door. For the longest time I believed that it had really happened.
What do you do for money?
Until today I was a travel agent! So right now, not much.
What do you do for pleasure?
Breakfast dates and dinner parties with my nearest and dearest.
What do you usually eat for breakfast?

Time travel is suddenly possible, when/where do you go?
Back to my childhood, any time we went camping.
