Rocio Roitman
Visual Artist & Architect, Tel Aviv
Rocio Roitman is a visual artist and architect from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She spent 6 months in Tel Aviv exploring, being welcomed into the locals’ homes, and taking photos of strangers that caught her elusive attention. Having a degree in architecture gives her the context and availability to express her passions for her “delirious curiosities.” She hopes to meet us again in 10 years living in Ukraine, Mexico or Korea as a visual artist.
Where are you from and why did you move to the other side of the world?
I am from Buenos Aires and I’ve moved to Tel Aviv for 6 months (now im back in Argentina). I’ve moved because I had the opportunity to travel very cheap to there, so I decided to stay longer and explore the middle east territory.
Can you tell us about how life is in Israel?
Despite what I would ever imagine, life there is pretty similar to Buenos Aires. For example in terms of warmness of the people, they open their houses to eat or to invite you to Shabat. People are really nice and very honest, although they know you for the first time, if they have to tell you something rude they will do it to your face, they will not waste a second.

Lovely characters on the street who catch my naughty attention.
You are an architect; how would you describe the application of your passion in your life today?
I think is magnificent for me, cause I have a strange passion for bizarre and fantasy staff. So to have a degree in architecture gives me a perfect power to explore those worlds giving more context and sustenance to my delirious curiosities.
We meet again in 10 years, where are you and what do you do?
In some unknown place like Ukraine, Mexico or Korea, working as a visual artist.
Your idea of happiness?
Coherence with my self: what I think, what I say, what I do.
Your idea of misery?
Living for other ideals, not mines.

My mom. And all feminists around the world who have struggled for years. I owe them all my freedom and awakening.
What is your present state of mind?
A little bit anxious, a little bit hopeful.

What do you do in your free time?
Overthink, see friends, watch bizarre things on youtube, put some loud music and dance.

People, truth, energies. Contrapositions. Mixes. Music.

On my way of finding the bypath of earning money by doing my own shit.

Dance.

What do you do if you can’t sleep at night?
I read, I see some stories on instagram or I practice some breathings a friend of mine taught me.

The sun followed me.
