Emily Ciavatta
Product Response (Q&A) Coordinator at West Elm
Brooklyn, NY
Emily Ciavatta has a love for life, the world, and its people. She expresses that quiet interest through photography, capturing moments of lives and memories. When she is not snapping film, she hunts for vintage pieces which she sometimes sells, another way for her to collect and share stories. She is based in Brooklyn, but she loves to visit new places, Miami on this roll, is one of them.
Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Emily Ciavatta and I am from Livingston, New Jersey. Now I live in Brooklyn, New York!
Why did you decide to shoot and submit one of our disposable cameras?
In 2019, I found my love for film photography. I take many pictures with my own camera, but then someone introduced me to Disposable Magazine and I loved the idea behind the project. It seemed like a perfect way to expand my horizons.
We see many different landscapes on your roll, can you tell us more about the locations you have visited?
Most of my roll is taken between New York and Miami (I went there for my birthday earlier this year).
Would you say you rather embrace or resist vulnerability?
I would say embrace - I'm a very upfront person and don't have much of a problem expressing how I feel.
Where do you go next?
I'm actually in Hawaii right now, but don't have any travels planned after this trip just yet!
Your idea of happiness?
The opposite of loneliness, surrounded by love, simplicity, taking pictures and feeling creatively stimulated.
Your idea of misery?
Not having financial freedom.
If not yourself, who would you be?
Maybe Frank Ocean or Patti Smith.
Your heroes?

What do you do in your free time?
Take pictures, go on walks, listen to music, sometimes all three?
What inspires you?
Too much - people, places, things. New York, my friends, the music I listen to and everything that I see in New York. I don't feel like this is a sufficient enough answer because there's just too much.
