Thea Hawlin is a writer, artist and cultural critic currently based in Italy. She is part Irish and part Polish, and attended the University of Cambridge. Her work has been published in The London Magazine, Aesthetica and Harper’s Bazaar. When she’s not working, you can catch her taking a night swim, reading Italian books or lucid dreaming.

My brothers.
What is your present state of mind?
Excited.

Too many to count. Right now I’m reading a lot of Italian, Calvino especially.
What do you do if you can’t sleep at night?
Lucid dream.
Do you collect?
Moments. I also like shells.
What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?
That we were all characters in a story someone else was telling.
How do you see yourself in 5 years?
Wiser.
Georgia, Boston, NYC, what part of each became a part of you?
My friend Georgia’s fine sense of style will always be with me. Sadly, I have yet to make friends with Boston or NYC. (I have yet to make it to America).
A color?
Purple. Of course.
A city?
Oxford.
What are your plans for this weekend?
To head to Scuol in Switzerland and get lost in the mountains for the first time.
A song?
‘Crazy Love Vol. II’ by Paul Simon because any song that begins with the words ‘Fat Charlie the Archangel sloped into the room’ deserves a lot of time.
